Renovator
03:54
|

Bob and Mary, just starting out
They got it all, all they need is a house.
Lucky them, they just got pre-approved,
Grease up those elbows you’ve got nothing to lose.
Watch them go to the Home Depot
A Subaru full of wood.
What they don’t know just might kill them
But I don’t imagine it would, but it could.
Stay back, we don’t need a renovator
Stay back, you’re all the same
Stay back, ‘cause you’re sounding like a revelator
Stay back you’re all the same
Bob and Mary, making great strides
Fixed up the windows and they painted inside
Ripped up linoleum to find hardwood floors
A nice new family’s moving in next door
Watch them grow heirloom tomatoes
In the old vacant lots
But still laying low after the sun goes down
To avoid getting robbed, or shot
Stay back, we don’t need a renovator
Stay back, you’re all the same
Stay back, ‘cause you’re sounding like a revelator
Stay back you’re all the same
Way across the water (I hope you’re ready)
Way across the sea (you thought you knew what you were asking for)
Way across the water (get out your wallet)
No one waits for me
Stay back, we don’t need a renovator
Stay back, you’re all the same
Stay back, ‘cause you’re sounding like a revelator
Stay back you’re all the same
Stay back, we don’t need a renovator
Stay back, you’re all the same
Stay back, ‘cause you’re sounding like a revelator
Stay back you’re all the same

The Frame
02:33
|
|||
Right
I was battling all night
Just to paint a picture of you
I got the colors tight
Value, saturation, and hue
I thought it was looking alright
In fact I thought it was pretty good
It’s sad but true
I varnished it up
Put it in a frame
You said “who’s that? What’s her name?”
I put down my brush and paints in shame
Either I don’t know you, or you just don’t know yourself
Or maybe I thought you were somebody else but
You keep the picture
I’ll keep the frame
Wrong
I forgot all the words to our song
I let the scented candles burn out
I spilled your wine on the bearskin rug
Made all the chocolate melt
My gestures never seemed to come out right
You were so uptight
You know I’m right
I took a photo
Or you in the rain
Looking like a drowning rat in a hurricane
I laser-printed it up and put it in a frame
It could have been funny, but you decided it wasn’t
I can’t argue anymore, it’s just too unpleasant
So you keep the picture
I’ll keep the frame

Last Man
03:11
|
|||
From the day he arrived we knew something was up
Confidence was misplaced, hackles were up
This man with the mouth, he’s not the one you’ve been waiting for
He knows too much, he ain’t the race you’ve been hydrating for
The last man alive, and he is a jerk
I can’t say I’m surprised but you couldn’t do worse
You can dream of a world where you don’t have to choose
But sometimes when you win you lose.
You look so surprised, please don’t get upset
I’m sorry we lied, but we’re building a nest
A nest for the world, a new Ethiopia
And you will be Eve,
History my girl will smile on you

Diamond Rhythm

Diamond Rhythm
You know there’s nothing as sharp
I have the vision
And I can see in the dark
No longer on a slow decline
Marching out in the world
Emotion’s not your friend
Diamond Rhythm
You know there’s nothing as bright
Laser precision
We are stars in the night
Burning white hot searing coals
Focus, drive, and control
Emotion’s not your friend
So this is how we’re living
With every drop of water
The tide is growing stronger
Diamond Rhythm
Diamond Rhythm
You know there’s nothing as sharp
I have the vision
And I can see in the dark
No longer on a slow decline
Marching out in the world
We saw through the slime
Stopped going back to the well
We’ll never be the same

Citizens
02:44
|
|||
I know I was once like you
Now I got better things to do
Than sit here in a rented room
Carving meaning out of gloom
But still, it’s a rush
To make the citizens blush
Shameful joy, not fate
I just got here too late
Some people overestimate
The things they think that make them great
They think we wait with baited breath
For the pearls of wisdom that they cast
And if you can’t apologize
You won the game but lost the prize
The ones you think you’re speaking for
Sail away and leave you at the shore
But still, it’s a rush
To make the citizens blush
Shameful joy, not fate
I just got here too late
Abandoned (all been done)
But still, it’s a rush
To make the citizens blush
Shameful joy, not fate
We all got here too late
